How do you keep contrast consistent in your 3d projects?

I just started learning to model and texture environments, specifically for games.

In pixel art, if colors are off you can generally change the color of every sprite pretty quick. However in 3d it's a lot more difficult to keep project files of every texture that exists with separated layers for shadows/highlights etc.

What are some strategies you employ to help keep the contrast of all graphics similar when creating them?
