I thought English was internet standard?
There's nothing special about the English language. It's just one language among many, used in one corner of the internet among many.

Yes, after I'd made some trips to China, I always worried every time I got an email in Chinese that it might be from someone I'd met in my travels. But I gave up any such notions after a short while.

They're expecting to scam you.
I don't know what the big deal is, I guess it's the fact I've had domains since 2007 and websites with emails on them since the 90s. I've gotten a lot of foreign language emails.
