How can I recreate tree's like in Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion.

Leaves are billboarded leaf clusters which rotate to face the camera. I like how lush it makes the tree's look and I am assuming it is a performant way of getting lush tree's, that's why I want it.

I know an old version of speedtree was used for oblivion, not sure if I can get my hands on an old version.

I couldn't find any examples of the new speedtree versions using this technique.

Shouldn't the billboards also inherit the rotation along the same axis as the tree trunk? They're nice-looking billboards but their movements look move like a bug?

@Brian Sandberg They only look weird when you stand directly under the tree, look up and then rotate the camera around, as in the video. All other times it looks great imo.

Part of the reason I like it so much is that the leaf billboards will always fully face the camera and therefore you won't ever see them from an angle (which I want to avoid as it makes it lose the “lushness”).
