Flight Modes experiments

I've been experimenting with using two different flight modes. It is quite fun zooming around in the normal flight mode, but almost impossible to actually do anything precisely such as landing on a particular block and so on.

Now pressing the E key toggles you between flight and hover mode. No visual feedback for this yet, but eventually I'd have some kind of undercarriage lower and retract when you moved between them and maybe have the thrusters rotate to a different orientation.

In flight mode, the ships pitch follows the pitch of the mouse and holding W (forward) applies thrust in whatever direction that currently is. Gravity works as usual but is overridden by any upward thrust. The ship rolls left and right as the mouse moves in those directions.

In hover mode, the ship automatically levels out roll and pitch and holding SPACE fires a vertical thruster so you can maintain a height by pressing or releasing and climb straight upwards. W, S, A and D move you very slowly in the four cardinal directions based on your yaw and the pitch of the mouse is ignored, so you can view the ship from above or below.

The hover mode means you can now easily do more precise landings on specific blocks and so on, but I'm a bit concerned it makes it a bit easy to play now and a bit boring. I'm not sure what the motivation for using flight mode is now, other than the fact that hover mode is less fun and slower. I suppose it is possible to walk all the way through Tomb Raider to a point yet people don't.

I'm generally a bit concerned this game isn't going to be particularly fun. I thought this might happen as I pulled in the sides and made it simple. I guess before I can make that judgement I need to be able to make proprer levels and include some things to do, some enemies and threats to tackle and so on.

What do you lot think from the videos? Look compelling amd make you want to pick up your mouse and fly my ship, or look a bit like it would be a waste of installation time? Honest answers please.

Thanks for stopping by.
