Help us keep GameDev.net useful, respectful, and high-signal for everyone.

General Expectations

  • Be respectful and constructive, even when you disagree.
  • Focus on helping people solve problems and improve their craft.
  • Do not post harassment, hate speech, personal attacks, or threats.
  • Do not post knowingly false, defamatory, or illegal material.

Posting Quality

  • Search before posting duplicates.
  • Use clear titles and enough context to get useful answers.
  • Share code and assets responsibly, with attribution.
  • Avoid low-effort bumps and repetitive posts.

Promotion and Advertising

  • No spam or unsolicited advertising in discussion areas.
  • Project announcements belong in appropriate showcase spaces.
  • Commercial links should add real value to the conversation.

Content Removal

As a matter of policy, GameDev.net does not remove or delete content outside of community moderation actions. Posts, articles, tutorials, and other contributions form a shared knowledge base that has made GameDev.net a lasting learning resource, and preserving that history benefits everyone.

Unless otherwise identified, content you post in public areas such as forums, articles, news, blogs, and projects is publicly accessible, indexed by search engines, and associated with your member account.

Exceptions where we will remove or redact content include:

  • Exposed personally identifiable information (PII), such as home addresses, phone numbers, government IDs, or private financial details.
  • Valid legal requests, including DMCA takedown notices and court-ordered removals.
  • Content that is unlawful, infringes third-party rights, or violates these guidelines as determined by moderators.
  • Verified requests from minors or their guardians consistent with applicable privacy laws.

Account Deactivation and Enforcement

You may request to deactivate your account through your profile at any time; however, your content will remain in place per the Content Removal policy above.

Account actions (warnings, temporary restrictions, bans) may be applied for repeated or severe violations.
