Normally its supposed to reload, showing the changes made. The only times it will messup is if you enter something too long for the field.

When I click on it (the link above in my post doesn't work - but I am talking about the profile button up top next to 'register'), it shows a blank page that keeps reloading itself (a blank page, everytime) about once a second, continuously until I stop it.

try copying this into your browser, and going there:

http://www.gamedev.net/community/forums/editprofile.asp

the link you posted above sends me to:

http://www.gamedev.net/community/forums/editprofile.asp

and it gives me a page not found error.

It works fine for me. What browser are you using? (including version)
Assuming your using a non-hippie browser, here are some suggestions:

1) Go into your browsers cache and delete the gamedev cookie (use sort by site to find it). There might be some corrupted information in it that is messing up the page.

2) Ensure cookies are turned on.

Can someone please check into this?

The problem is on your end, so your going to have to give us some browser/configuration details. I guessing you've either crippled IE with parnoid settings or have installed some other browser with equally bad configuration.

Hi there,

Both of the computers I use have Internet Explorer v6.0 with the latest update/security patches, with all the default security settings, etc. Both computers have the same problem with the Profile button. I am running Windows ME on one computer, and Windows 98 SE on the other.

You said above "The only times it will messup is if you enter something too long for the field" - is this a possibility? That would indicate that the problem is on your end, not mine.

I tried the deleting the cookies, and it still does not fix the problem.

I have also tried pasting the URL in the address field, as someone else stated, but the result is the same.

I don't have any other problems with the browsers on either of the two computers I access this site from.

Ok, I just got your email. This is exactly what happens (regardless if I click on the profile button, or paste the URL in the address field and hit enter):

The page starts to load, and the top section of the page (that is on the top of every page on gamedev.net, as far as I know) shows up, the rest of the page (beneath this top section) is all black. It stays this way for less than a second, and then it acts as if someone hit the refresh button - the page starts to reload, and this whole process repeats - over and over. The only URL that shows is: http://www.gamedev.net/community/forums/editprofile.asp

I can tell you that my browser settings are no different than anyone else - I do not disable anything, or change security settings, or anything like that. I have a firewall, which I know can block some of those things, but I turned it off, and it still doesn't work. Besides, the rest of the site (auto login via cookie) works with the firewall on or off.

Do you think it is because my username has a space in it? or anything like that?

I know how to solve this problem - I'll let you log in as me. Give me a secure way to give you my password, and you can see for yourself.

Given what you describe (the problem does not match a cookie/login error) the best way is to send a message to the address I mailed you. Everyone that reads that mailbox has the admin capabilities needed to login with your name and password, as well as fix your account data if something has become currupted.

Hi, I have no idea what I did with the email that had that address. I use hotmail through outlook, and normally save everything, but sometimes I use hotmail from someone elses computer, and the synchronization doesn''t work all that well. Can you please send me the email again?

I did find something else, though. I noticed in the status bar (at the bottom of the browser) showing 2 different URLs. The fisrt one that shows is:

http://www.gamedev.net/community/forums/editprofile.asp

which is the same as the profile link that you click on. The other one that appears after (the first URL must call it) is this (let me type it out from my screen capture):

http://www.gamedev.net/banman/banman.asp?ZoneID=1&Task=Get&X=1025879892600

Does this make any sense?

I''ll email you right now, as well.

Thanks for the help.

I know you guys last told me that you were aware of the problem, and are working on it, but it is still not working.

I would like to check the information I have entered into your database, and also, I would like to set "Include my profile signature" on by default, if there is such a thing. For some reason, it never seems to be set.

Thanks!

Seemingly, this link leads to the banner manager of gdnet...
I guess that for some reason your browser relocates your request for the editprofile page to the embedded banner manager ("banman.asp").
Just try it out: http://www.gamedev.net/banman/banman.asp?ZoneID=1&Task=Get brings you a <script></script>-section for banner management which is obviously normally embedded in the gdnet page on the upper right.

No idea why this is mixed up on your side... on mine, the banners appear in the upper right where they belong, and even the profile page works normally - even on the rare occasions that I can enter it without being thrown at the all-famous gamedev.net/Login.asp - which is actually only directly after login-by-posting.

hope I could help anyway
pi~

-- addendum:

whoopsie, I see I got something wrong; I thought you were redirected to the location you provided there (one should always _read_ prior to answering)! Anyway, your question regarding the address should be cleared now: it's just the banner manager which is included on every page.
