I posted a question a week or so ago about how come there aren''t any good classic RPG''s out anymore, and I got a response saying that there have been a few developed by people like us. I was just wondering what the names of these RPG''s were and where I could get some of em. Thnx He who laughs, lasts

well, Neverwinter Nights seems to be a revolutionary RPG. I think it will really change the face of RPG''s. I''m really excited about the dungeonmaster features.

It''s installing as i write this.. wohoo!

Slightly off-topic, but I''ve throroughly played through every Final Fantasy game I could ever find, except FF10.

I''m really skeptical and a bit pre-judgemental about playing the latest title. From what I''ve seen, it doesn''t seem like an RPG at all! It looks more like one long linear adventure game. No world map? A real time mini-map that tells you where to go? It''s like a colorful dungeon crawler!

Correct me if I''m wrong, please. I am thinking lately about playing it, but I don''t want to waste my time if it''s not like an RPG. I don''t see how a game like this could possibly contend with FF6 or FF7. If you''ve played this game, please try and change my mind..tell me some redeeming qualities about it.

I have to agree with aegrimonia. Neverwinter Nights is pretty damn good.

The single player campaign is so-so in my opinion, but multiplayer is incredible.

Having a real-live dungeon master makes all the difference.

No, that''s pretty accurate. Its basically completly linear until the very end when you can do a slight bit of exploration, but nothing terribly interesting.

For "classic" RPG''s, I''d get a Gameboy Advance.

Yeah I''m gunna have to say that final fantasy 6 and 7 were not terribly linear As the story goes, you can follow along to progress in the game but otherwhise you can travel the world going from city to city exploring and leveling up. There is tons of side quests and mini games in FF7. Dear lord I love Final Fantasy 7... Oh wait i''d better not get started...

Anyway yeah ten was God Awfully linear. You may as well be watching a VERY long CG and rolling dice to see if you die or not every so often.

I heard that Dragon Warrier 7 for the Playstation (came out last month or two) was pretty good. Even looks old-style 2d graphics-like.

I''m going to go out and buy NWN in the next couple days, but I''m afraid of all the bad press it''s been getting from people that bought it and have been having lock-up and slow-down problems. Anybody here noticed those problems?

FFX was a linear but enjoyable game. I liked the new battle system, BUT it made the game real easy. For old school, I recommend Lunar 1 & 2. Good story, no random encounters, and a lot of fun. Plus some great anime is a plus if your into that. I''m playing the Arc the Lad collection now and having a blast. Picture a slightly less comlex FF Tactics battle system (but still with lots of depth) combined with a traditional RPG and you have Arc 2 ( and 3 I think, but I haven''t finished 2 yet ).

The Lunar''s and Arc 2 rate very close to FF7 in my book.

I really liked Baldur''s Gate I & II, they are still great RPG''s

FFX is good, while I do hate the fact it does not have a world map, it''s still a good game, nice story, music, graphics, and it''s fairly long compared to other FF''s (without any side-quests/insane leveling up), to play or not to play? I say, play.

World of Ruin: linear gameplay, crap plot development. Coincidence?

Yes, FF10 is very linear. Getting rid of the world map helps make the world feel believeable: you actually walk everywhere you go with everything in proper perspective. It would have helped if the paths were a bit more open with multiple routes, because it feels like you are being led along by hand.

The battles are good though.
