We''ve all been going gaga over the new doom3 shots, and discussing the technology and whatnot behind unreal tournament 2k, *but* are we forgetting about Cyan''s operation mudpie? I was just checking out the screenshots at www.cyan.com and some of them look pretty durned impressive. *Why* is cyan being *so damned quiet?!!* -skjinedmjeet

On the same note take a look at farcry from crytek. They are developing PolyBump (doom3 uses a type of it) for other ppl to use.
They were in a few game mags but they have gone largly unoticed

The CryEngine looks great - particularly the plant/fauna life.

It's certainly impressive stuff, although there aren't too many screenshots on the official site. (only two.). I assume that the "polybump" technology is simply generating bump maps based on polygonal models.

The quality of some of the mudpie shots is insane...

And yet another

I'd just be interested to hear about some of the technology behind this engine. All anybody *really* knows about it is that it will be a "massively multiplayer" game for people with broadband. In some ways I find this dissapointing, because I enjoyed the single player experience of myst and riven, and I think that this technology could be used to make an incredible single player game. But really, who care: look at the eye candy.

It has everything but a good name. I mean, seriously folks..

The MudPie Engine? . Could they at least think of something that sounds reasonably well?

If there''s some special reason for the awful name, please enlighten me!

Are you sure this is a 3d engine, and not a 3d character walking on pre-rendered 3d backgrounds?

(Edit to add "pre-")

while your at it, why don''t you tell them that Santa Clause isn''t real

I hope its not pre-rendered, but even if it is I may still give it a try. With lots of people, the puzzles might go a little faster...

someguy: "hmmm, this ones a stumper. how will we solve it?"
me: "umm, bathroom break, how about you handle this one..and I''ll get the next one"

I should be able to keep that up for about two or 3 rooms

The GoatseCaek Engine?

One fellow wrote a music library for Allegro and called it DUMB. Bonus points: one of the structs is called a DUH ....

But Santa is real... This is not, though.

Look at the screenshots: It''s the exact same idea of Alone in the Dark with better graphics...

It looks okay, but I think it needs assault weaponry so that those of us who don''t enjoy solving inane puzzles can just go off and blast other players for points.
