Hi, I am actually a beginner to databases, have Oracle9i installed and currently having problems logging into the SQL PLUS because I believed I do not have the default ID and password. I learnt from a book titled SQL foundamentals that the defaults are "system" and "manager" but it failed. Below is the error msg I''ve got. ERROR: ORA-12560: TNS protocol adaptor error I look forward for your kind advice. Thanks in advance.

Check your TNS listener is running.

Also, we found that running SQL Plus from Terminal Services results in the error (in fact, running almost any Oracle utility over Terminal Services results in errors, at least this was the case in 8i, maybe it''s fixed now...)

Finally, the default password is "change_on_install" (minus quotes)

If "change_on_install" is the password, how about the userID?
I''ve tried "change_on_install" for both ID and password but it just won''t work out.

Um, you''ll have to wait until I go back to work, I can''t remember off the top of my head

You used to be able to use CONNECT INTERNAL, but that was removed in 9i... it''s something like SYSDBA or something like that...

connect / as sysdba

with password change_on_install. That should work... (I think

)
