1. Any recommendation on the best deal for a web host the has asp.net and SQL ? 2. Anyone know a c++ tutorial for making a ACtiveX control for the web. I was making a little game .. and it seems my choices would be ActiveX or java applets.. do I need to get some sort of permission for the general public to use it? 3. How do Java applets interface with a SQL database are there classes for this? (I am thinking of a high score table) 4. Any time frame on the .net for PPC? 1 month? 1 year? I figure I will use c++ and switch over to that eventually. 5. Anyone else find CD-RW useless as me since CD-Rs are so cheap you just throw away a CD rather than change anything on it and its quicker (cd-r) 6. Anyone who is a dummy like me want to recommend any MFC/DX/PPC/COM books that they found finally explains concepts in a way they can understand? Good programmers cannot recommend this since nothing confuses them. (the ppc andre lamothe book was the best book I ever read as far as explaining concepts that I could not grasp before) 7. Any other programmers out of work like me? I am 27 with 2 years programming asp/vb/sql and cannot find work for $35k for 2 months now and thier gonna take my condo from me! 8. Wouldnt a turn table scratching program for the PPC be a cool idea ? I was looking into making one eventually.. shouldnt be too hard 9. Is programming without MFC really harder than not using MFC? 10. Has anyone tried programming the e740 hardware directly with xscale assembly to test the speed? Would this even be possible?

I don't know much about a lot of this, but I figured I'd help where I can.

Hmm... Only thing I've even seen on the ActiveX control subject (which is not to say I've actually tried looking for any) is one of the chapters in that Ivor Horton mini-book thingie that comes with VC++ 6.0. Still, I think you meant an emphasis on the "for the web" bit, so I'm afraid I really don't know. As far as permission, I've never heard of such a thing, but that's not to say it doesn't exist.

If you put it that way, probably. I guess a lot of people just figure the money on CD-Rs does build up after a while, and why waste a rather lot of CDs, even if they are cheap. And, CD-RWs can save you from getting screwed when you messed up your last CD-R at a less than opportune moment.

Hmmm... Nope. Sorry. The only books I've seen on most of those subjects didn't really help. I personally recommend just finding any book or series of tutorials that starts from the beggining. Don't worry too much on understanding the text, just tweak the code and see how much of it you can understand that way.

Personally, I find programming WITH MFC to be harder. One thing that always bothered me about programming for the usual Win32 API was how you had to handle every stupid detail on your own. Yeah, I know that's part of programming, but do we really need to handle about a half dozen messages just to get a scroll bar working? Anyway, back on track, I like how MFC does make a lot of the menial tasks of Windows programming go smoother. But at the same time it just goes too far, and ends up pidgeon-holing me into coding things in one specific way, usually in ways that irritate me.

Please keep in mind I'm at least a little biased there. I have more experience programming Windows without MFC than with. I understand MFC enough to work with it, but maybe I need to understand it more to actually appreciate it.

EDIT- just fixing a typo that screwed up the quotes
