Hi. I have uploaded an updated demo version of my game MarkoN(tm). I would like you to download it and tell me what you think. Last time I asked for people to give me feedback, only one person wrote. I would really appreaciate your feedback on my game. Here is the address to download it: http://www.gamedev.net/community/gds/projects/default.asp?projectID=644 Use the link, it''s going to take a little bit time until it will appear on the list of the GDShowcase.

I would d/l and comment, really I would.

But...

18mb is a little much for a demo of a game. I only have a 56k, and a slow connection at that.

The files are way too big. Not just for downloading times, but it is very slow loading the game.
It appears that there are an extremely large number of frames for the animations. I recommend reducing the number of frames in each of the moving animations.
How many frames are there?
Also, if you are using seperate images for when a figure is facing left or right, try using just one and flip it while drawing, or create a flipped version in memory for blting.
The battles are slow loading also. If you are loading seperate graphics for the battle and main board, maybe try sharing as many frames as possible and loading them all at the beginning.
And if you are using high color (16bit, 24bit) bitmaps for the graphics, don''t. There aren''t that many colors in your images and you can easily get away with storing them with each as 256 color, or maybe even 16 color, and loading them into 16bit color surfaces.

After another look it appears you offer a large number of resolutions and have different graphic sets for each resolution. Try only having a small number of resolutions, and possibly just one graphics set and scale it to the correct size on loading.

If you want more suggestions on speeding load up times and lowering the amount of space it takes let me know. That is by far the biggest problem.

Overall the game has a lot of potential. Possibly lowering the damage the attacks do so it isn''t first hit wins could be a bit improvement.

Oh yes, and your game crashed when I have my dual monitors on. But a large number of commercial games have the same problem I won''t bug you about it.

Oh, optional antialiasing would be nice....

There is a an occasional flicker but it seems rare, and I dont'' know why.

Lol, wow, I said a lot more than I was planning on... Even though I said a lot of bad things I do like where your game is going.

I hope I''ve helped some. Maybe I should get back to working on my game now...

Thanks for the responds.
I know loading time is a bit of a problem, but once you load a battle fo certain characters the next time you do battle with these characters they are already loaded so it only takes a split second to load.
Have you noticed that?
Also, having deiffernent amount of resolutions does not affect the amount of data I need to sotre.

Again, I thank for your replies.
