help compiling ode?

Original Post
Wow, you must think that we are telepathic here.
What in the hell are you talking about? What library are you trying to compile. More detailed instructions to WHAT?
Where is the code you are trying to compile? What type of compile errors are you getting?
How are we supposed to help you if you don''t tell us the specifics?

Just telling me ''ODE'' doesn''t help me much to know what library you''re talking about.
It looks like you''re trying to build a Unix library on a Win32 system. If you don''t have something like Cygwin installed, you won''t be able to use the Unix build and install instructions.
You would run configure with /bin/sh (by just typing ./configure), which would generate the makefile appropriate to your system and then (and only then) would you run make, which will, in turn, call gcc or g++.
If the INSTALL file provide Win32-specific instructions, follow them instead...

I just followed the instructions as given : go to the directory where you unzipped the source (you had done that in your earlier trials, hadn''t you ?) and run make configure and so on.

The only thing I can imagine now is that you would have a corrupted makefile. Mine produces a md5 signature of 1388D583D872C6B74F30349B99A38C03. Do you get the same ?
If so, go edit manually config/config.h after having read config/README, then edit Makefile and remove the dependences to configure from the other make targets.
If not, try downloading it again.

sorry : include/ode/config.h
Check confing/user-settings to make sure it matches your configuration.
Also look if the configure target is in the makefile.

there is no include/ode/config.h. as for the user settings, they are right. where is the makefile? what is it called? is that just make.exe? i tried putting make.exe in the main directory, with the makefile, but it still says the same thing.

If you give up trying to compile it yourself..here is a compiled version I made awhile back.

Here''s an attempt at using the library I did...not quite right...but maybe you can see what is wrong.

Here is a really good demo that uses ODE, you should check out the source to it also..

I don''t remember what I did, but I think make needed to be in the root directory...and I had to create a lib folder before I ran it...???

i can''t seem to make this library compile. are there any more detailed instructions than the docs? they just say run make, and that doesn''t work. i need this library to work, you hsould have seen my pitiful attempt at physics! HELP!
billybob,
I can''t emphasize enough that you need to ask this question in the General Programming forum. This forum is for specific technical questions on math and physics. Your question, although related to a math library, has nothing to do specifically with math or physics.
For this reason, I am once again moving your thread to the General Programming forum.
