Recently I''ve been finding its actually faster to spell check a word (when I''m writing a post or something similar) by running it through google rather than opening MS Word or using a website like dictionary.com. For instance Google "wieght". Is anyone else doing this or am I the only one that uses a search engine as a spell checker?

Actually all of those websites have weight misspelled (follow the links and see). What I''m more interested is in using the
"Did you mean: weight" to find the correct spelling of words.

I still use Dictionary.com all the time, though sometimes it''s very slow.

Google''s spellcheck allows me to not worry about the spelling, though, when I search, and I like that.

I usually use the unix ''look'' command to check spelling.

I can't believe it. I though I was the only person to
ever do that. Except I use altavista. When you
search for a mispelled word the first thing it brings back is
Did you mean: "correct spelling here"? So I know I've spelled it wrong.

Great minds think alike.

Edit: Apparently google does that to.

Merriam Webster is the quickest, most efficient one, imo.

Yes it's my homepage too.

I would like to everyone who has MSN as his/her homepage hanging

HMMM! I just started thinking that these sites that change your homepage with a script aren't that bad at all, because just these people that have MSN as their homepage are the ones that are unable to know why their homepage changed and how to set it back

ROFL.

That''s actually kind of cool. Use google to find out how many people can''t spell.

It seems popular enough that it''s promoted as one of the features of their api.

Haha...I''m sorry but I used Mozilla the other day on a friends computer and I couldn''t stand it! To much like nutscrape i suppose Personally, I think opera is much better. It has the search bar with google and everything as well, along with tabs and it even supports mouse gestures (which is nice for those of us with a standard two button mouse).

Thats just my opinion though...I would not use Mozilla ever...hehe.

bookmarklets =)

make a bookmark and put this in for the url:

java-script:Qr=document.selection.createRange().text;if(!Qr){void(Qr=prompt('' Query...'',''''))};if(Qr){void(window.open(''http://www.dictionary.com/search?q= ''+escape(Qr)))}

then just highlight whatever you wanna look up and click the shortcut.

Yes, it brought back unpleasent memories when I first saw it too. It really is a nice browser though, we all out grow our own senseless distastes with time. You can make it look a number of different ways, if you''d like.

You can get an IE skin for it I think although I can''t see the point. I like the modern skin that comes with it as default.

I use Google too for spell-checking, but even more for expressions and prepositions. I am always afraid of making a literal translation from French to English (like "Nothing sucks like Electrolux".
