To draw 2D text in my game, I''m using CD3DFont::DrawText(). But when I''ve taken a look at the implementation, I saw that the function seems to use vertex buffers (and vertices so) do draw the text (??!!??). Am I wrong?? If I''m right, this way probably kills performances, no??

and what do you suggest it use instead?

CD3DFont provides very good performance for its code complexity. it''s not without bugs and can certainly be optimized, but for simple text output it''s perfectly adequate. you shouldn''t worry about performance unless you''re making a large number of DrawText calls per frame. if you do, you might want to add batching support for some extra speed. in any event, CD3DFont is a very good piece of code to start your own font engine with.
