read a VB file in java

Here is the problem: a file is created with VB and filled with data (strings only) with the ''Put'' instruction. Is there a way to read it back in java ? Comment: by reading it directly with an InputStream or Reader, i get the wished data but messed up with some sort of byte arrangement that VB uses to separate entries. How to get the data out of this file, or giant string ? Please, only precise and clear replies, thanks.
