Ummm... this may sound newbish... but the Direct3D samples don''t work. I just get the errors: Generic application error. yadda yadda yadda. And then: Generic application error. yadda yadda yadda. Does anybody know what''s wrong? I''m using DirectX 8.0. Thanks! .elendil67

ATI Xpert 128 16MB. Some of the examples say that it won''t run on my video card, but most don''t and just say general application error. Also, I barely have anything in my mssdk folder! I have the headers libs, DDraw, DInput and D3D samples, but nothing else! The utilities folder is empty...

I had the same problem. Almost none of the samples included with DirectX 8.1 worked for me.

I solved them by tracking down the proper .h and .lib files, and adjusting the project settings.

First, most of the projects had an improper path to the include files - they showed "..\..\common\include", where for me the sdk installed a different folder tree, so I needed to go a couple more folders up the tree to find them, and they were just in include, no common directory - "..\..\..\..\include".

I also found an "mssdk" folder on my drive that contained many older .h and .lib files, and apparently the VS projects were using that directory. I copied in the newer 8.1 .h and .lib files (risky, I know), and the samples then worked.

Just keep tracking down the errors and adjusting the project and you should get there. Try doing a "find in files" of the missing function over your entire drive, if necessary, to turn up the proper files.

Hope this helps.

Thanks... but I don''t think you understood my question: First, there are no sample codes . But the problem is I can''t run the exe''s.

Thanks.

what are exact errors you''re getting? are hresults available? if so, look them up in the error lookup tool.
