Hello, I completed this game about 3 months ago, but I think I never said anything about it here... Anyway, I'd like to say that I completed a little UNO card game , if you want to test it, download it here: www.ldc.usb.ve/~ciro/uno/uno.jar, it's a jar, as you can see: in Windows just double-click it, and in unix type java -jar uno.jar If you have any comments, you're welcome (In the future, I might add a smarter AI , for now, it plays cards randomly). I liked it a lot cyrax. I used to play UNO a lot as a kid, this brought back how much fun it was.
The whole program looks really clean & polished with the help file and tool tips, good job. Game plays real well too (and is as addictive as UNO always was).

Suggestions:
- it was a little hard to follow whose turn it was with just the player names highlighting. Maybe a border around the current player''s deck?
- maybe a speed setting for the other players, they seemed a little slow to me.
- a little animation could add a lot as well (simple stuff along the lines of solitare or hearts).
- Multiplayer!

Overall, I like it a lot, great job!

Hello, thanx for the compliments , I made the card faces myself with a little help of Fireworks... I handed the Swing code to Forte and tweaked it myself.

About your seggestions:

1.- Looks good to me, I also noted that the name highlighting wasn´t enough. But I did this game about 3 months ago when I was in vacation, maybe now that I´m on vacation again I´ll check the code.

2.- I though the part of the animation, in that time, I though it was hard, as part 1, I´ll revise the code, and I might change my mind.

3.- When I finished the game, I tried to do a multiplayer version of Uno, I fiddled a bit with RMI, but I couldn´t catch with it, I really need to sit and read a good book of RMI (If someone is willing to donate the Vol. 2 of Core Java, I won´t reject it ), that and I must read well the Java Tutorial part about that (I couldn´t understand the Bingo game bundled with the tutorial).

Anyway, thanx for your suggestions, they really make me mess with the game again :D.

mmm, BTW, the other reason why I haven´t touched the code is because there´s a Tetris I´m finishing, and a bigger project I´m willing to finish (an adventure game engine )...

While I can't help you with the Core Java book, I could give you some tips on the neworking stuff. For one, I'd skip RMI. A super-simple protocall over TCP would do everything you need. Send me an email if you want more help.

That´s a class called ''UNOHelpScreen'' (the source is in the jar, use your favorite WinZip to check it), the window displays an HTML file (and the help file itself is a plain HTML file).

Ah, thanks... I''m working on a new game, and I''ve been wanting to do something like that for the help file.
