I don''t know how tricky was for you to install the SDK, but I just can''t get it right. I ''m already ashamed just writing this. I have the setup of DirectX 8 SDK. I run the setup and from there my setup oddyssey begins.
The first time I chose complete installation, thinking of first install then look. I thought I would get everything in my hard drive. Then I chose Debug version instead of Release. No matter how hard I tried I couldn''t use any library of DirectX. Somehow it came to me to get into the installation folder and check them by myself. The directory was empty... Now what?
I uninstalled the SDK and installed it again. This time I chose custom installation installing everything but the VB documentation. Thankfully it did installed everything I asked. I thought I was ready to get down to code some staff and try to compile them. Everything was fine until my first allocation error, which forced me to use the debuger. Trying to do so, I got a very nice message saying that E:\directx\test\debug\test.exe does not have debug information (or sth like this). But I did installed the debug version. Later I noticed that I had to go to the control panel to enable debugging using a DirectX tool. Well the radio boxes that should allow me to choose to debug or not to debug (hmm, that sounds familiar) were disables without letting me any interaction with them. I guessed then that somehow installed the retail version. However I ''m sure I chose debug. Anyway I just uninstalled the SDK and once more I tried to install it. This time I have installed just the libraries. No documentation, no samples, no demos, and of course (the worst) no debugging. Did I mention no tools either? I don''t have the control panel''s tool to enable debugging.
Does anyone suspects why might this be? I use WinXP and I have DirectX 8.1 installed in my system.
