Hi All, If somebody was to code a game based on a popular sport as a project to pitch to various funding partners, would including real names and teams be illegal? Even if the game might not be released, or if it is released the licence would be bought? Or would you advise using made up names and teams? I think a product using real data would make the project look and feel, much more professional. D

Why not create two sets of data files? One with real names and one with fake names?

Oh, and it''s illegal if you release software with unlicensed names in it. If it''s for your own use then there won''t be any problem.

You know, I think the legal ground here would be a bit shaky. You can''t copyright your own name or anything. Even trademarking it is only likely to work when it''s a fabricated psuedonym (as in professional ''wrestling'' for example). Having said that, if you do use ''real'' names you will probably have the association''s lawyers coming down on you regardless of whether the law is on their side. It''s a case of whether you want to fight the battle or not.
