Does anyone know of any sites that i can find any help with using a DEV-C++ compilar to make windows programs? Is DEV-C++ the same as all other C++ languages or does it have different things in it?

Dev-C++ isn''t a compiler, it is a development environment.

Dev-C++ uses the mingw port of the gcc compiler suite, the manuals of which are available online (gcc-2.95.3 for Dev-C++ 5, gcc-2.95.2 for Dev-C++ 4).

gcc adds some extensions to the C and C++ languages, but overall is more standard-conformant than MSVC is (especially VC6 and earlier, MS claims Service Pack 1 will bring VC7 to full compliance). Of course, if you''re used to using Microsoft''s extensions to the language (and believe they are ''standard''), then it is obviously not the same C++ language. But the extensions aren''t part of the language anyways.

You can also download individual mingw-gcc packages from SourceForge to upgrade the compiler to the 3.1 beta, since 2.95.2 is 3-year-old (2.95.3 is 1-year-old and considered stable).

Same, Dev-cpp all the way...

cone3d.gamedev.net has some basic devcpp startup tutorials I remember.

go to gamecoding.co.uk, some pretty good stuff in there.
The world has achieved brilliance without wisdom, power without conscience. Ours is a world of nuclear giants and ethical infants. We know more about war than we know about peace, more about killing than we know about living. We have grasped the mystery of the atom and rejected the Sermon on the Mount." - General Omar Bradley
