Hello friends and e.....s I have made some opengl programming. My problem is that when i add light, texture, shadows and reflection then i have a framrate of 1-2 fps. I start with about 15 fps. This is in a small 300*350 pixel GLUT window. I cant see my animations because it is to slow. I use GLUT and C/C++ for my code. In Visual C++ i link to opengl32.lib and then it uses GDI Generic 1.1.0 as renderer. My problem is that i dont know how i shall do to use my Voodoo 2 as a renderer. What changes do i have to do ????? I have a computer with a AMD K6-2 450 MHz CPU, 320 Mb RAM, with a Voodoo 2 for 3D graphic (yee, yee i know it is old). My mothercard, SIS 6326, have a built in 2D/3D graphic chip. I would be happy for some help. Happy Hacking. Don''t forget to eat and sleep

Buy a new video card. Radeon 9000 and GF4 MX are really cheap.. Even a GF2 MX would be better.
Or use 3dfxgl.dll as your GL driver. But then you have to use LoadLibrary instead of static linking.

Simple method: rename opengl32.dll to opengl32.bak, and rename 3dfxvgl.dll to opengl32.dll

It will then use your Voodoo. Keep in mind, that you have to use fullscreen mode (either 640x480 or 800x600) at 16bit colour depth and 16bit zbuffer. And no stencil buffer (since you seem to use shadows and reflections: if they use the stencil buffer, disable them. They won''t work on a voodoo2).

I doesent have the money for a new computer or a new 3D video card.
I use the stencil buffer for my shadows and reflections. I think it will be harder to do that without a stencil buffer.

Simple (non-intersecting) reflection surfaces can be done using the z-buffer alone. The stencil buffer is not needed. They can also be 100% accelerated on a Voodoo2.

Shadow volumes without stencil buffer (nor alpha-buffer) are almost impossible to do, unfortunately.

You can get advantage of the DOS search algo. place your 3dfxvgl.dll in the working directory of execution after renaming it to opengl32.dll... this would affect only your programs in that directory...

Those are almost exactly the specs I have at work, at least same sis card.

Anyways, sis 6326 are almost notorious for bad OpenGL support. Your only option may be to get a new card, there are some VERY cheap ones out there(like $80 a comp-usa for a 32mb mad dog)
