I''ve been using Visual C++ 6.0 to make a game, but unfortunatly I didn''t own the copy I was working with (that does not necessarily mean it was pirated!). So I''ve been itching to buy my own copy of it. A while ago I tried to buy it from buy.com, but it was right after Microsoft came out with the .NET version, but buy.com still had 6.0 listed. So I ordered it. But as soon as I did, buy.com said they were out of stock. So I figured they''ll surely get some new ones in or tell me that they couldn''t fullfill my order or SOMETHING, right? A few months pass and I haven''t gotten neither word nor package from buy.com. I send several email of increasing anger demanding for buy.com to DO something, and each time I get a reply exactly the same. To summarize: "We don''t know when we''re gonna be getting any more of this item, so just be patient." This was MONTHS after I had first ordered it, and I still had nothing to show for it, so I finally got tired of the whole thing and canceled my order. Several months pass and I decide i might as well order .NET, and right as I''m about to order I check out the system requirments and what does it say? Doesn''t support Windows 98! BradDaBug: "Hey, Microsoft, could I please have a compiler and IDE to develop for your platform?" Microsoft: "Our platform? Are you talking about Windows 98? NO! You''ll have to spend $300 and upgrade, plus spend another $200 on .NET edition!" BradDaBug: "But I don''t have that kind of money!" Microsoft: *crushes BradDaBug into splattered goo with giant SOL rubber stamp*

So VC6 is no longer supported.

Actually, there was some reasoning behind the decisions to not support Visual Studio .Net for Windows 9.x. The basic reason is that the entire thing was coded to use UniCode, not ASCII. It was deemed to much trouble to convert all the text into ASCII also.

Now, the real reason is because they assume that every developer has figured out by now that they don''t want their development platform to crash

They could have at LEAST fullfilled leftover orders for 6.0. Then I''d be happy.
