Hiyas, I finally found a modeler that I can draw more than a stick figure with. It''s called Rhino. I want to take my models and put them in my game, however I am not sure if it exports them with the "object origin" at 0,0,0 as the data is too complex for me to easily analyze. The other problem is which format to use and how to load that file format into an opengl program. It can export in raw, obj, and 3ds to name a few. From what I can gather raw is just the triangles, obj hasn''t got material parameters only the material name?, and 3ds...well I can''t find a good tutorial on loading it that is thorough, most just get the geometry and thats it. So my questions are: Anyone know an algorythm to move an object to 0,0,0 local space no matter what the vertices are? Anyone know a good tutorial in loading models in one of these formats? (the one on this site for 3ds stinks) Anyone have experience with Rhino and have some tips on orientating the model to 0,0,0 before exporting it? Thanx, Christopher Pisz

That tutorial is icky, it barely explains what the code does
and the code is written quite poorly in my opinion. I was hoping
for a good written explanation of each step and code that is
easily readable and modifable. Why use structs in some places
and classes in others. Why in the world declare objects in three
seperate modules instead of one. It jumps all over the place and
I think I will spend more time finding declarations then
learning. Thanx for trying though. Anyone else have any
information?

You have to look at the ase loader before you look at the 3ds loader. ASE is very similar to 3ds, but in txt fileformant.

Learn ASE then go for 3ds.

You can try using a library I wrote called Spider3D. It can read 3ds files.

As a matter of fact, Rhino is what I used to export the files used in the development of Spider3D v2.

You can go to www.spider3d.com to download the library. Be sure to drop by the forum to get the scoop on Spider3D v3.
