I can''t seem to find any concrete sources on which method is faster for doing render to texture stuff.. Nvidias p-buffer seems good, but plenty of sources say that its no faster than doing a copyTexSubImage() because thats what the drivers are currently doing plus i''d like to avoid anything nvidia specific for now. Perhaps having a separate rendering surface and copying this to a texture manually? Or even using the back-buffer as temp scratch drawing, copy into texture and clear before drawing the scene properly? Any pointers appreciated.

There''s a WGL extension if you use windows.

It''s fast on ATI boards, slower on nVidia boards.

Faster on both than a copyTexSubImage?

Aha, i think i found the extension you''re refering to.. WGL_ARB_render_texture (should of seen that earlier, oops). Don''t suppose anyone knows of any good tutorials on setting up this ext? All the ones i can find are for p-buffer setup

rendertexture was slower than copytexsubimage on nvidia cards a while ago (i havent tested for a few months though)
this has been discussed quite a bit in the www.opengl.org forums perhaps do a search there

ps i was talking about with nvidia cards

I''ve got some code based on the NeHe tutorials for using WGL_ARB_render_texture. It''s pretty simple and easy to understand. E-mail me if you''d like it: domachi@ati.com
