Hello, I am looking for some help finding a webhost that will allow me to use CGI programs written in C++. I would prefer a host that would execute a windows based CGI program (I use winblows for internet so it''s easier for testing) however, linux/apache based would be okay as well. If I''m using terminology wrong, forgive me; I''m new to CGI stuff. I prefer a free webhost, but if it''s pay - just as good. Any help at all would be appreciated, even if it''s just pointing out my ignorance in this field Thanks everyone! --Andrew

You''re unlikely to get a free one which lets you have CGI at all (some might, but I wouldn''t use a free one anyway). Also, most of the pay ones (depending on how much you pay, of course, but the cheaper ones at any rate) probably will only have perl-based CGI or some other scripted CGI.

If that''s good enough for you, you can get perl interpreters for Windows (check out Active Perl) so you can still test them at home.

If you''re lucky, some of the guys on here are sometimes willing lend out webspace, maybe you''ll get lucky and get one who will let you use CGI

If I had my way, I''d have all of you shot!

If you can get Perl scripts to run, you can get them to run the C++ executables.

Yes, the point not whether you can or can''t physically do it. The point is that the host may be unwilling to let you put them there. At least he/she can read what a perl script is doing, they can''t see what a C program is doing (without the source code at least).

If I had my way, I''d have all of you shot!

Thanks for the replies!

I already have the webpage written in C++ and I would just output the generated HTML to a file and then I would open it. That was too tedious and not the "real" thing (i would have to recompile to click on a link). So, I dl''d the IIS stuff and installed that...I need a better connection. I am still gonna eventually need a webhost for this stuff, the cheapest I could find this far was 15$ with a 40$ setup fee...so I''m gonna keep looking.

Thanks for the help though guys,
