How would would you optimize a vertex list for GL_TRIANGLE_STRIP drawing? or optimize the index list of the verticies for GL_TRIANGLE_STRIP?

A possible starting point : Siggraph 2000 - "Face Fixer: Compressing Polygon Meshes with Properties", by M. Isenburg and J Snoeyink, from UNC-Chapel Hill.

theres also a striperfy at the nvidia site (which will optimize for various sized gppus caches)
also another is ''stripe'' and pierre tierdman (or something like that) has one on his site
