i was thinking, if i would use shadow maps yes? that''s a fine/nice way to do shadows if you are planning to use the whole vertex/pixel shader techniques anyway... i am not here to argue if it;s best or not, i was just thinking, if i would have 4 shadow maps from different possitions, how would you calculate them together, so thaty you would actually also get less dark shadows and more dark shadows..? and are soft shadows possible, and how ? You would use them as textures, and your vertex shader could blend them together in one pass. Four shadow maps from different positions would mean 4 lights. Perhaps you want to calculate shadow maps from different solar positions and fade them into eachother over time ?

Soft shadows are also no problem, if you have a low-resolution shadow map. Then they fade nicely, like when you get very close to a textures wall. You don''t see huge pixels, but colors fading into eachother.

fat,

so for example if you would have 4 static lights you would generate the shadow maps on low but not TO low res, and then blend them realtime to 1 map and use that?

there;s one thing left,

you should draw the scene, put on the lights asnd then do the shadow maps right?

but the lights have effect on the blackness of the shadow...

so would you like first enable light one, put light one shadow map on,
then 2 same stuff
then 3?..4?

my idea was to use shadow maps for static lights + static objects, and use for example shadow volume with stencil buffer for moving objects, and real-time shadow maps for moving lights..

does that sound okay?
