AFAIK:

The source code to it is copyright, e.g. you can''t post their source code on your website.

Any object/executable code you build with it is NOT.

It''s the same situation with things like the C runtime library - you get the source code with the Platform SDK, you can use it in whatever you like, but you don''t own the *source* code.

So I can''t distribute the source, but I can distribute/sell any executable I build with it?

S1CA, that seems kinda harsh, maybe it''s:

You can''t post the code as long you say that you didn''t write it?

Otherwise that seems harsh to me considering someone might write a tutorial with it, which is a good interface if you want to stress clarity in a tutorial. That doesnt seem right .

It says right in the SDK that anything in the SDK you can use freely... Be it art, models, or source code...

The copyright just means you can't claim that piece of code as your property. You can't take the source code they did and sell that source as the "CopyCat DirectX 8.1 Framework Library 1.0" for $100... However, you can use their source, make a game and sell the .EXE for $100... You are using their free source code in your EXE, but you aren't selling their free source code.
