I''ve been looking to purchase a 3D game engine and it is now a toss up between Torque and A5 Gamestudio 3D. Which do people think would be money better spent and why? Thanks Lazarus404

Darkbasic Pro >) *ouch my hand, who slapped me?

If you gonna go for prewritten libraries, why not do it the totally easy way and go with darkbasic pro?

On the other hand, I''ve seen some good stuff with A5, haven''t looked into Torque at all, so I can''t really help you there.

I fseek, therefore I fam.

It really depends on what you want to do with it and your skill level. I''ve played with A4 and I wasn''t impressed at all. I personally prefer Torque. You can try both for free (Torque -> Realm Wars demo) and there''s a trial pack for A4.

Try them out and see which YOU prefer.

No offense drarem, but I wouldn''t touch DarkBasic Pro with a barge pole. It''s buggy as hell and a little bit below my standards as far as quality.

I''m currently a business systems programmer with loads of experience, but want to move away from the dreary business logic world and into the gaming world - Along with a friend who produces 3D graphics like you''ve never seen! We both wanted to whip up some quality games at speed so that we could get a feel for the whole games development process before it came time for me to sit down and work on my DirectX engine (which is coming on very very slowly). I''ve looked at many engines, including Fly3D, Auran Jet, Torque, Nebula, A5 GameStudio and many others, but the Torque and A5 engines seemed to offer a level of construction that, while quick to produce the main bulk of a game, could easily be worked on using script and C++ code to produce something close to, if not fully commercial quality.

If anyone knows of any other engine that would be worth using to produce some decent games, then I would be grateful if you could let me know. Also, if anyone has any examples created with A5 or Torque, then I would love to see what you''ve created.

Thanks,
