For some reason, ever since I have changed all my integers and data from LPDIRECTDRAWSURFACE4 to LPDIRECTDRAWSURFACE7, after the program has closed, nothing using Windows can be opened again. I have tracked the error to DirectDraw, but I was wondering if anyone could help. It says Kernel.dll or something has had a fault and must be closed down. That''s the details from the illegal operation thingimabob. Mike

1) Use the debug version of the runtime from the SDK.

2) Turn up all debug output levels for DirectX components in the control panel.

3) Run your app in a debugger, preferably one with the full source code.

4) Watch the debug output to see if any DirectX components are complaining about anything.

5) If the program crashes (say with an access violation), check the call stack in the debugger to see if any of your code is to blame.

6) Remember that upgrading to DirectX 7 interfaces requires more than just changing the pointer type, you must use the new GUIDs etc.

Your code may be leaking resources, may not be restoring display mode correctly, may not be restoring cooperative level etc...

Yay! I took some of your advice, but not being very good at debugging, I rewrote my DirectDraw section. Now arises another problem. Whenever I call DestroyWindow(hWnd) after I have released everything attached, it returns the illegal operation again!!!

Oooh, I haven''t been setting everything to NULL. That fixed that problem.

Thanx guys!
