I just installed j2sdk1.4.0_02, and I am having a problem with applets. All the example Applets that came with it and all the Applets that i compile with it give the Error Load: class xxxxxx not fond. Other Applets i have (compiled with an older Version) work fine. Thanks for any help. p.s I added C:\j2sdk1.4.0_02\bin to the PATH and CLASSPATH is not set.

i think you should set CLASSPATH to you j2sdk/lib directory, but don't kill me if i'm wrong. also, make sure you're actually using sun jvm when running your applets, not i.e. ms jvm from ie.

I Tried setting the CLASSPATH to C:\ j2sdk1.4.0_02\lib” like you
said, but no go.

I am running the applets in Internet Explorer.
How would I test that?

Oh. You can't run them in internet explorer. I think it's because it only supports up to 1.2 or something. However, there is a program that will make your html work in browsers. It's called HTML Converter and I believe it will make the user download the stuff to make it work under IE, netscape, etc. I'm still a relative newbie to the world of java so if anybody want's to elaborate/correct me please feel free

edit - By the way, the HTML Converter app is in the /bin directory of whatever folder you installed you're javaSDK files.

You can run your applets in IE, because starting with 1.4, Sun J2SDK comes with a plug-in.

Now onto the problem. I think it may have to do with a faulty install of the j2sdk. Why not download the latest version from Sun and see if that fixes it?

I don''t remember a 1.4.0_02 release, because AFAIK, after 1.4.0_01, Sun released 1.4.1. Perhaps that''s the version you want to try.

Also, in the Windows Control Panel, look for the Java Plug-in and configure that to include MS Internet Explorer.

You are right!
1.4.1_01 is the most recent release. I am Down Loading it now.

I still don’t know why 1.4.0_02 dos not work though.

Do you have to set Classpath, as mine is not set (it was once set to "C:\QTJava.zip" which I erased and left blank and mine works fine...I had only to set the Path variable...dunno if this is at all relevant but I am intrigued...

As has been posted before on these boards, a properly coded Java application doesn''t need the CLASSPATH to be set. And you really shouldn''t set it, because it may wreck havoc with some programs.

ARRRGGG!! 1.4.1_01 dos not work ether!.

But I think this might be the trouble.
When I installed 1.4.0_02 last week I already had Java 1 on my computer.

I tried to uninstall java 1 before I installed 1.4.0_02. But I only uninstalled the Runtime Environment and not the SDK (By mistake). I then deleted the directory.
So I installed java2 1.4.0_02 SDK on top of Java1 1.2.2_012 SDK.
I don’t know what to do to fix this.

Tell you what, just uninstall everything related to Java, restart, and install the SDK you want.

Already tried that. The problem is that I deleted the java1 files so I can not uninstall it(It is still shows up in the Add Remove Programs dialog).
I assume that it is it’s registry entries that are causing the problem. But I cant run the uninstaller to remove theme because I deleted it.

When installing the JDK make sure you chose custom install and make the 1.4 plugin the default Java for IE or else make sure that it is set by going to (in IE) Tools->Internet Options->Advanced and scroll down to Java(Sun) and make sure Use Java 2... is ticked (I''m using IE6 but should be the same). If you are using the Java plugin and it still will not work then you have a problem. I have found Java applets to be a royal pain quite often (sometimes the built in MS JVM works better than the Sun 1.4 plugin, sometimes the otherway around and sometimes neither seem to work but Netscape4 works and so on, its crazy).
Anyways, hope you can get it to work. It is possible, just remember that =)

The java IE is using the Java plugin.

Here is more info.

In the java Demo folder are the folders:
Applets
Jfc
Jpda
Plugin

Non of the applets in the applet folder work, but in Plugin is a an other folder also named Applets. That folder has all the same applets in it except they work.

I still have a problem though because all the applets I compile won’t work.

I hope this makes the problem clear to somebody.
