I just did a book report. Someone from school read over it and saw, "2+2=5" (This is from 1984) and he said, "You just had to add numbers to this didn''t you?" And all I have to say is: 1045743875: You know you''re a nerd when you are told by a class mate, "You just had to add numbers to your book report didn''t you?"

In the controlled society of 1984 the Ministry of Homeland Security Truth tells you what to believe. Hence if they tell you 2+2=5 then 2+2 does equal 5. Read the book, trust me, it''s good.

Yeah I got about halfway through the book before this semester started, it was really great. I can''t wait until school ends so I have some time to read stuff that I actually want to again ;(

One you guys get done reading 1984, you should check out Brave New World by Aldous Huxley. Usually these two dystopian novels are mentioned side by side. They show the two most feared forms of future (current?) government, one that rules with fear, and one that rules with ignorance of the populace. Both fantastic reads.

BTW Tyro, when I was in Highschool 1984 was required reading for some english classes (I'm in the U.S., so could be different if you're elsewhere). But that may be why your chem professor was surprised no one had heard of it.

1984 is chilling, but I believe that "Brave New World" is a much closer prediction to the real world as we know it.

Yep, 1984 is a good book. Right now I''m reading Brave New World. And after that I plan to pick up Farenheit 451. It sounds interesting too.
