Okay, boys and girls, here''s the deal: I have an aging K6-2/200 running Linux. I wish to add USB to this computer so that I can use my drawing tablet again. The computer does not have on-board USB and was in fact built before USB was popular. My question: If I add a PCI USB card to it, will it work and will Linux recognize it? Check what PCI USB drivers are available under Linux and make sure that whatever card you buy uses a chip that at least one of the drivers supports. Once you have that covered, everything else should work just peachy.

I know there''s a site that lists hardware that is well-supported under Linux, but I forget the URL.

You can try looking for specific information, rather than our speculation, at linux-usb.org.

In general, the newer the kernel the better support you''ll get for USB (as I''m sure you know ). Most of the 2.5.x stuff is getting or has been backported to 2.4.x.
