Fused Bitmaps

This is an idea that came to mind last week while I was thinking up the design of my new game. As you probably know, when a scene is rendered in each frame all of the bitmaps that are associated with objects on the screen as well as the background have to be drawn. If you have relatively few objects on the screen at once you might not have to worry about speed. However, if you have many objects on the sceen your game could be slow. My idea is to fuse all of the bitmap, including the background bitmap (if there is one), into one solid bitmap. This way you would be drawing only one bitmap at a time! Now that''s fast! Please comment on this idea.

Ho do you propose to fuse them? By drawing all of them onto the background? That''s basically the same as the regular way, unless everything is static almost all of the time, say maybe a chess game.

I think you missunderstood. I''m sorry I didn''t explain this in more detail. I will be doing some more research on bitmaps and then I''ll write an article explaining my idea in full detail. Check out my website for this article.

You dont mean back-buffering, do you? Maybe I didnt understand either.

Sounds more like a variation on the dirty rectangles principle of old, which really breaks down when you''ve got complicated multi-layered scenes with lots moving and/or scrolling. There are nice tricks with pre-assembling and caching backgrounds if you''re scrolling, with adding on moving objects and extra scroll tiles per frame. But even this gets complicated with parralax layers etc.

It all depends on the methods already in use and the relative speeds of drawing vs. culling and/or caching as well...

No people, this is has nothing to do with texture! In fact you''re all completely wrong! I''ll post the article on this top on my web site this sometime this week. So stay tuned!

This is partly correct but what I''m talking about is a little more complicated as well as different! Check out my website within a week to see the article.
