Okey, here''s the problem:
We were going to make a movie with my friend and I was mostly gonna edit it but he''s the only one with a TV in/out video card. So he thought I would take my HD to him and then we would boot it with his (that would detect mine so that we could copy it to mine).
Well, hopefully some of you know about building computers.
He had his DVD-rom and CDRW-rom on IDE2 and his harddisk on IDE1.
So I plugged out his CDRW and put my harddisk there. I accidently switched from master to cabel select and not to slave.
Well, what happened. It booted fine, and it WinXP delected my harddisk.
Ok, I checked out my harddisk from his computer and it all looked fine. Then with he having a better computer I had to try DoomIII (yeah, I know it''s wrong to d/l leaked proggys/games). Anyway, it loaded a long time (one freaky thing was that the FPS was locked at 666) so I though, bah, I don''t wanna wait and pressed ctrl+alt+del, I got to the task manager menu but it was too slow so I pressed reboot on the computer.
When it was about to boot it showed some error, can''t remeber what. And I couldn''t really do anything. Well, we tried to disconnect my harddisk and the same error appeared. So we took the WinXP CD and booted from it, and my friend told me that we could format it because it doesn''t seem to work otherwice. So I said, okey, let''s do that. What happened then. Well, when the XP installation showed where to installed it it found an unknown partition (not FAT32 or NTFS). So we deleted that and created a new one, it was now the first odd error appeard, when we chose to make a full size partition( 40gb) it only gave us the option NTFS (not FAT32) and we could make to smaller paritions using only FAT (not FAT32) so I said we better use NTFS and make a full size partition and we began to format but it was so damn slow, we rebooted and did it again with quickformat, it worked but it booted really slow. So we had better format it for real, my friend did that last night it took about 10 hours...
Well, why did it take so long? Hmm, could be, when we tried using a bootdisk from DOS 6.22 it started to allcate stuff (or what ever it did, I wasn''t there now) like if it was fixing some errors. So I think that was what the WinXP format did.
Problem is that my friend still claim it boots slower then usual!?
What could have caused this error and what has really happened?
And how could we totally re-new the whole harddisk removing everything from it for a fresh format!?
Please I really need help on this one,
MindWipe
