Not too long from now I am going to develop the ultimate bitmap! This bitmap will be able to support all of the colors that your computer has to offer and will be formatted in such a way that it won''t take up much space. Also the bitmap will have "state" flags so that you don''t have to worry about masking. The bitmap will be compatable with all devices and should be faster when it comes to drawing. The object that supports this bitmap will also come with a variety of methods that will allow you to apply various textures to it.

If you say your gonna do it, and then do it, your a genuis. If you don''t do it, your just an idiot.

Yeah. build that. Try to sell it to Microsoft, too. then we''ll all HAVE to use it...

That''s a great idea, Francois. I never thought of creating an image file that is good; I always assumed you needed at least two or three flaws.

End sarcasm. Seriously Francois, besides the fact that you''re most likely not going to create a more efficient compression than GIF or JPEG (or ZIP for that matter), you also have to be aware that getting an image compatible with a device is up to the device, not the image. Images are documents, nothing more. It is the applications that read them and display them.

Also, drawing speed has nothing to do with the bitmap. But this is all stuff you will learn when you actually try to code this, instead of posting bogus declarations on here.

Considering that you did not in any way elicit comments or ask any questions and decided not to put this in the "Your Announcements" forum, it can only be assumed that you want to be flamed. If that''s the case, please save such posts for the lounge.

Does DIB ring a bell? With a DIB at my side I can make any bitmap compatible with any device!

A DIB is a bitmap, it''s not something you use with bitmaps. Please learn what you''re talking about before posting, Francois.

So your big idea is "fusing bitmaps"? Just drawing onto an offscreen surface completely before you send the stuff to hardware?

This has been done before. If this has something to do with your "ultimate bitmap" then I hate to let you down, but it''s no breakthrough.

It one thing to say it, it''s quite another matter entirely to actually implement.

If it''s really gonna be the "ultimate" bitmap then I would certainly hope for more colors than my computer has to offer! With the new graphics cards coming out, 32-bit float PER CHANNEL color is about to become the new standard. That means 128 bits of color per pixel for RGBA.

Just thought I''d throw in something that''s both constructive and flammable

Yeah, this thread can''t really be called productive.

Francois, you are indeed a genius.

Have you considered adding a property to each pixel that stores the date of the last modification, and all previously saved colours of that pixel? i think it could be cool.

I am most heartened that you are an HTML programmer, it will be valuable in your quest to make the greatest games ever, with the best image format ... ever ...

There is no such thing as an ultimate bitmap format. Each field of application has it''s own priorities, and each bitmap format has it''s advantages and drawbacks. In other words: the definition of the word ''ultimate'' changes with your application domain.

Anyway, I don''t think that this thread will ever spawn some productive discussion. Closed.
