Alright, there is an RPG creation system that has tiles that I like (freely distributable) and a means to read them (open source). I want to convert them to windows .bmp files to be included in my program. Also, other than blitblt(), is there any other way to draw a bitmap to a window (dialog window, specifically) without making about a million-and-a-half different spaces for bitmaps in the resource-editor??? ================== My (soon-to-be) Cherished Cookie of Appreciation:

was my question not clear? I specifically need information on 256 color bitmaps...

Patience, young one.

This forum isn''t exactly the fastest on the net. And with an attitude like that ( in 2 posts ), it doesn''t surprise me that no one''s answering you.

As for the question, google it.

thanks for the help.... not....

if you get no replies, a better thing to say is "was my question not clear?"

it looks like you need help with something, but this is not a question.

there are a few, such as setdibitstodevice. what''s wrong with bitblt?

In the MSVC++ Resource Editor, you can set an Image (bitmap) control that holds an image (just an image). Similarly, you can set a button to hold a bitmap instead of text, although the Bitmap Control has no effect when clicked on. I had opted to use many of these instead of blitblt(), and simply use SendDlgItemMessage() to set their image, rather than workind with HDC's (they confuse me...).

To be even more specific, I can read the actual bytes of the image from file, but I would like to then save them in a .bmp format, so they can be edited with paint, and can be used in Win32 programs.

http://www.geocities.com/foetsch/d3d8screenshot/d3d8screenshot.htm

he uses direct3d surface as data source, but all other code should be applicable.
