Is GIMP good for game design?
I''d like to learn GIMP for art design, but I''m not sure if it is good enough.

GIMP is as good as photoshop, maybe even better. I''ve used both, and I think GIMP is more intuitive.

Having used Photoshop for a number of years, I find it difficult to use GIMP for a few reasons. The main one is key bindings. I am so used to being able to hold the spacebar to pan the image when zoomed in, and in the GIMP you must hold the middle mouse button to do so. Holding ctrl+space in Pshop temporarily activates the zoom tool, but in GIMP you must switch to it, use it, then switch back.
Is GIMP a good program? Yes. Very good. I believe I can do what I need to in both programs. I don''t believe GIMP is a photoshop killer yet, as there is much it must implement to catch up. However, you can''t beat the price, and it''s always being developed. I think my problem with switching over is that I''m so used to photoshop. I''ll use GIMP for simple editing, but for any complicated creation I usually go to photoshop. I have noticed that GIMP has some great features that I''d like to see in photoshop (more gradient options, for example).

Try using the plus and minus buttons.

Yes, it''s evolving nicely. Have you tried the ''unstable'' 1.3 version? Most of the things I dislike(d) about 1.2 are fixed. 1.3 is obviously not done though; e.g, the path tools are broken at the moment (at least in the Debian provided build of 1.3).
