I was in a store a while ago standing behind this couple. They were wearing nice leather jackets and seemed to be dressed decently. They had a bunch of food in their cart, a 32 case of beer, some other liquor and some cigarettes. Now comes the part that irritates me. They pull out some cash and buy the booze and cigarettes, and then... they pull out friggin food stamps to buy the rest of their food!

OMG, that pisses me off so much. If you''re poor enough that you need food stamps, then you shouldn''t be buying stupid crap like beer and cigarettes. In essence, the tax payer (me) is paying for your cigarettes! WTF?!?! [/rant]

Sorry, but that does bug me. I just hope this doesn''t start some debate

I get into a new school this year. It''s a tiny little private school, not very fancy, but quiet, simple, and not as bad as public school.
In get to the math course, and me being a fairly intelligent student who blitz''s through math, I find it to be very nice. Everyone works at their own speed and just comes to the teacher for help.
Looking through the course material, I find to my surprise I''ve done most of it last year! I had previously taken an accelerated course which had essentially been a year ahead.
I don''t get to skip up. This itself doesn''t really bother me, there''s a few things I needed to know and/or refresh anyways. So I talk with the teacher and he says I don''t need to do any of the coursework, just review tests on each section.
Great! So I look through at a decent rate and here I am, finished the year of math (including the final exam!).
And then comes the bad part.
I hand back the results of my exam (having done fairly well for not preparing at all whatsoever) and he asks for my work.
Me: "Uh... there is no work".
Teacher: "What do you mean there is no work?"
Me: "You said I didn''t have to do any work..."
And now he goes off into some dreamland where I was supposed to do work, despite him bluntly saying (because I made sure he was perfectly clear when I arranged it with him) that I didn''t have to do work.
Aaaagh, I''m going to smash something if I have to go back and work through everything I just passed!!

My girlfriend continually agrees to arrangements and such, and then promptly forgets about them. So when it comes time for me to show up, borrow something, take her out, spend the night, go home without spending the night, and myriad other things, she gets that "You're still this stupid?" look and denies ever talking about it.
I'm going to invest in five pounds of sticky notes and paste every agreement we make on her forehead.
This is why I had her explicitly sign and date an IOU the other day when I had to lend her a chunk of money to pay bills.

Right now, a certain customer is bugging the hell out of me.

So he calls our sales department last week, and wants a special customized version of one of our products. OK, no problem. But he wants it for monday next week. Ouch, that might be a problem, very tight deadline. OK, our sales guy asks me if our programming team can make it on schedule. I say yes, he makes a project offer, and sends it to the customer. He has 3 days to agree, or the delay will make it impossible to do the modifications he wants.

We wait for his reaction. And wait. And wait. 5 minutes before the end of the proposal''s validity, he sends an email: it''s too expensive (of course it is, if you want 10 techs to work the whole night and weekend to get your product done on schedule), blah blah, he doesn''t agree to the license agreement, blah blah, etc. OK, so the sales guy sends me an email: the customer doesn''t agree, project won''t run.

Now this morning (5 days after the end of the proposal''s deadline) this customer calls me (why ME ?! I lead the programming team, I have nothing to do with sales !) at 5:30 AM (!!!) at my private phone at home, of course waking me up from a very nice dream...

He is in total panic, ''I need the product for my presentation monday, I''ll accept the terms !''. No. You should''ve accepted it 5 days ago. Now it''s too late. He starts screaming around, that he''ll lose his $2 million contract because of that. Well, that''s not my problem. I tell him to call the sales department, hang up, and go to sleep again.

10 minutes later, the phone rings. It''s him again. He didn''t get anyone at the sales dep. Of course not, it''s 5:40 AM, you idiot. He starts insulting me, screaming like mad. He threatens to sue our company. I tell him to go ahead, and hang up. Fuck you.

1 minute later: phone rings. I unplug it.

So now I tell that story at work. Everybody laughs. Haha, yeah, very funny. I''m very pissed. So who the hell gave him my private phone number ? Silence. Of course, noone knows what I''m talking about. Yeah, sure. Aaargh. I HATE things like that.

People who complain that the Fellowship of the Ring didn''t contain everything in the book. Did they want a ten hour film? They don''t seem to realize that book and film are different mediums and have to be treated differently.
For a prime example look at films derived from Stephen King novels: those that were heavily adapted for film did well (The Shining, The Shawshank Redemption), while those that tried to contain everything from the books sank without trace.

all I can say is:

I KNOW WHAT YOU FRIGGIN MEAN!!!!!!!

*cough* I mean uh yeah, I agree with you. The quote/unquote "taxpayer" (middleclass) tend to get shit on the most in this country. I think one of the things that bugs me the most, in this country that is supposed to be all about freedom and pride, is insurance. The government does not own this country, insurance companies do . Without going into explicit detail, all I''ll say is that insurance compainies are thieves and nothing else will change my mind. I mean think about it, you are required by law to pay for car insurance, which for some people like me, costs more than the price of the damn car! And while It may "pay" for your vehicles damages or the other''s damages, should you get in an accident, your premiums just GO UP ANYWAYS. So in essense, insurance is just like a damn credit card company. You get the cash now, but pay for it BIG TIME later. Another example: You don''t have to have medical insurance, but if you are middleclass, and "make enough money", but still can''t afford it, if something happens to you - you''re screwed! Some operations and such could cost thousands of dollars, and for people like my parents and I, that would take YEARS to pay off!!!
The reason I say the insurance companies own this country is because that''s where the government gets some of their money from .
*sigh* But you know, there''s nothing we can do. I have also witnessed the amazingly stupid sight of someone buying more food with food stamps than I could ever afford in one visit. Hell, I''m in college...I''m about 30 grand in debt right now, and these people that you were describing cold_steel, who are they? I''d say about 99% of them are just too lazy to get a job...or were too cheap to buy some condoms, so now they have more kids than they know what to do with. Yet here I am, in college, trying to get an education, trying to get out in the world and do something good with my life, and because my parents make "to much", I hardly get any financial help from the government. Oh, and my parents live paycheck to paycheck and struggle to make ends meet every single day...yeah, sounds to me like they make too much! >:-(

Shwew, I''m gonna get myself all riled up and it''s only 8:45 in the morning! That''s enough ranting from me for now.

There is a very important lesson to be learned here. In school, work, and pretty much any situation where the things you do are going to determine your well-being (pay, grades, whatever), ALWAYS have EVERYTHING written down and SIGNED by the parties involved. Hell, you can even take it to the Notary and make it legally binding (well, if you''re a minor, you can''t enter into any binding contract so...). If your teacher/prof says you don''t need to do your work, have him right that shit down and sign it. Then when you come back at the end of the semester and he asks you where your work is, throw his signature back in his face and tell him to suck it (well, think it anyway ). It''s called covering your ass, and you have got to do it.

"I''ve never seen that. I''ve never seen anybody drive their garbage down to the side of the street and bang the hell out of it with a stick. I''ve never seen that."
