Lo All, This is the first proper game I've had a go at, it's a pretty simplistic 2d lander clone. So far it has about 6 sucky levels, which will be either too hard or too easy. It is coded in C using the SDL api, and may run a bit slow on older machines. It is controlled with the arrows keys. The link is below, it is 1.6 Meg which is a bit big for such a simple game, but it will get cut down in the future. www.chizief.co.uk/games/evac/evac1.0.rar Any feedback will be muchos apprieciated. Thanks in advance... CoiN [edited by - Coin on December 15, 2002 2:19:52 PM]

It runs a console, then a black screen with a cursor at the top left corner. Then it just brings me back to the desktop.

My specs are:
Win Xp Home
1.7 Ghz
Geforce 3 Ti500
256 Ram

Hi,

I honestly haven''t got a clue why it does that.

It''s been tried on my machine and a friends so far, we both have GeForce 2''s, and it works fine. I''ll try it on a few other machines see what happens. Could be XP as I run 98SE.

Cheers for giving it a go anyway...

Update:

Hey, I downloaded the game, installed it in the _exact_ same place and it ran perfectly! Gfx look great, seems to run a good speed, and the feel to the game is perfect. I just made it to level three, very very hard... Just a couple of things I would change:

- I died to much that pressing ''No'' after each time I died and it asked me if I wanted to quit got a bit annoying, maybe it could say, ''Try again'' and you have to press space to restart?

- Also when the box came up asking me if I wanted to try again I found that the cursor left a weird black artifact after I moved it.

- Laslty I found that sometimes I blew up even though I would swear I was going slow...

Besides these minor problems Evac is a great game, keep up the good work!

Cool,

I''ll take a look at the things you have mentioned, especially the crashing at low speed.

If you find a level too hard you could just edit the level time in the level file, which is the very top number.

Thanks again...

I downloaded it and all that i got was a ".rar" file that didn''t open with anything.
And so, the evil religion thread stole the wonderful "What the Heck?" thread's throne. Truly a sad day for gamedev.

hey great game. i also had the problem where the mouse cursor left a black square when the try again thing finished. i increased the value of time so i could complete the game and found that for levels 5 and 6, the game seemed to slow down. also on completion, the thrust sound of the engine continued to play when it returned back to the main menu. i''m sure once you put a readme to the file it would become clear, but at first i wanted to land on the building in the scenery (didn''t realise you had to return to the pad). the default times for each level should really be more for the later levels.

running a: amd 1400+, 256ddr, gf2 32mb.

some improvements could be: a limited amount of fuel for each passenger evac, making the background images as sharp as the moving images.

keep it up.

Evil Sausage: get WinRAR

CoiN: I suggest using .zip archives...not everyone has WinRAR...obviously.

Stats:
P3-500mhz
256mb RAM
64mb GeForce3 Ti200
Sound Blaster Live! 5.1

It works fine 'cept for the things the other poster mentioned. By the way, you should increase the amount of speed you can have to land...I found it extremely hard. i was about 4 pixels above the landing place, and at a stable position (not going up,down, left, right) then gravity took a hold and pulled me down...i assumed i should be fine but I died.
