Limit Bandwidth

On my PC I have the DSL modem (512kbps). I'm sharing the connection with 2 other PC's. One of my lil' brother and the other is from my parents. I'm doing this by using WinXP ICS. Now I want to limit the bandwidth my lil' bro can use. How can I do that without limiting the bandwidth of my parents? Why I want to limit it? When his PC is on (meaning that he's downloading) I can hardly open Google. Now thats bad. The Sorcerer [edited by - TheSorcerer on December 16, 2002 5:17:43 PM]

Well if the machines are running XP you could use the QOS adapter that MS put in. It allows you to limit bandwidth usage by percentage. Works very well in an office environment. You can make it so the local secretary can't take all the bandwidth downloading her favorite screen saver

Edit: I should clarify, the QOS is in the Network protocols section... It's not an adapter, not really sure what it's considered. But it's in there with the TCP/IP settings...

I found out about QOS and that it was possible with that protocol, but what I can't discover is how to adjust the settings of QOS.

Network shaping should be illegal.

Just get an expendable machine to pingflood his box every once in awhile, and he should keep the amount of bandwidth waste down. (just a joke: what a waste of hardware that would be!)

You should also consider moving from ICS to a router/firewall hardware product; these usually give you superior performance for a small outlay of money (and will reduce your slow connection speed issues).
