I guess you''re trying to set them in
(The above goes for XP - the procedure is the same for NT4 and Win2K with slight modifications)
For those who believe in God, most of the big questions are answered. But for those of us who can''t readily accept the God formula, the big answers don''t remain stone- written. We adjust to new conditions and discoveries. We are pliable. Love need not be a command or faith a dictum. I am my own God. We are here to unlearn the teachings of the church, state, and our educational system. We are here to drink beer. We are here to kill war. We are here to laugh at the odds and live our lives so well that Death will tremble to take us -- Charles Bukowski
autoexec.bat? That''s not the NT way of doing it. Instead go into the Control Panel, choose System, then go to the Advanced tab. There should be a button there called Environment Variables. Press it. You should be presented with two lists of environment variables, one globally for the system and one for the current user. Make your changes here.(The above goes for XP - the procedure is the same for NT4 and Win2K with slight modifications)

To verify that the path has been set correctly, type
And leave the poor autoexec.bat alone, will you?

echo %PATH% at the command prompt. And leave the poor autoexec.bat alone, will you?

I used the autoexec in 98 and I thought it would work in xp. So what is with you people giving me shit over using the autoexec? Besides, it''s common since that I would add the bin sub directory to the path. I think something else is wrong. I have XP and I''ve heard that Java doesn''t work with XP very well. I don''t use the autoexec any more; I only tried it once. But my system''s environment variables for Java are not working properly. Why does every one keep repeating them self’s when that solution isn''t working? I''ve set the environments variables thought the control panel, okay. I still have the same problem at the DOS prompt in XP. How every I can use the programs in its directories fine. That shouldn''t matter any ways, because it''s environment variables that are not working. Then environment variables are not working in DOS, so I wonder if there is a way to enable them to work in DOS. Would Visual Studio.NET have an effect how environment variables work?

If everyone keeps repeating the same thing, and you find it doesn't work, chances are, you're doing something wrongDon't need to get all worked up. Just post more info and we'll be able to help you.
Hey NuffSaid, you couldn't be more right. I was doing something wrong. I placed the environment variables in the wrong place. I was making a new environment setting in the system list of environment variables. Then I deleted that environment variable and places it with one of the 'User variables for Matthew' called Path. Now problem is solved.
