C++, the language itself, has very little to do with your FPS. It''s generally as fast as you make it.

Your maximum FPS is based on the quality/performance of your hardware.

The code that you write in C++ affects your frames per second.

As [vtwin] said C++ does not affect your fps.
It is more about how you write your code, how you optimize it, your hardware, 3d card...

Maybe if you write a game with assembly (is it possible ??!! )
you''ll gain some speed.

Some people are bad programmers and some people don''t know what a good game is all about. That is the answer.

C++ limits ? Let me quote Jim Carrey:

"THERE IS NO END TO THE POSSIBILITIES !!!!"

With a truly optimized game like Carmack would do, the limit would be the speed of the CPU. Or the maximum might be the refresh rate on your screen. A bad programmer might do a whole bunch of unnecessary processing or choose slower methods of doing things. And that slowness can be done anywhere and that would show up as a buggy or bad game. For example, a highly touted 3D game called SIN came out and it took forever to load a level. The reviewers called it a flawed game and rightly so. When it was patched, it loaded smooth as silk. There can be many slow points in a bad game. And out-right crashes which would qualify it as a bad game.

The speed limitations that c++ brings are usually insignificant and which usually consist of have a pointer redirection on a vtable of pointers. The trade-off is usually very good if you have a large program(greater flexibility with better chance of good design).
