Clean up forums

I don't think they'd take away the Anonymous Posters. APs are actually pretty helpful sometimes in forums other than the lounge. Although it gets past me why they wouldn't take the three minutes to register, I don't think the GDNet staff will ban APs.

They are thinking of buying off-the-shelf forum software, as this junker they're running now is like a 386. I am sure that they will start deleting very old posts and unused usernames with the new forum software. The big mystery about it though is when it will come.

I think that instead of giving moderators more ability, I think that you should let users rate other users. Maybe you could let the topic starter give the poster a rating depending on how well they answer your question. And maybe the higher rating you have, the more influence you have. That way, you could also get moderator's almost automatically. I don't think that would work for the lounge, but that's a strange forum.

The problem is, that the current forum software doesn't allow a priviledge level between mod and staff. They can't just give mods banning ability without giving them total access to the site at the same time. The new forums will address this problem, there will be a lot more options for mods and normal users will also be able to rate/flag abusers.

Is this new forum homemade or is it store bought?

I''m sure the jokes will keep coming, so don''t worry It just means that we''ll get the benefits of extensive testing, support, upgrades, a search facility, etc.

Last year, I made a web engine especially for community management. It has forums, polls, articles, news, statistics, people can rate others, etc, etc. While it is not the best thing in the world, it is pretty usefull, and, at this time, I am using it for my game site.
