Hello, I run a startup game development studio called Spooky Tornado Studio LLC. I''ve started many projects and unfortunately haven''t completed any of them due to the programmers usually getting too busy and quitting or just dissappearing altogether. I''m tired of this and don''t have time for it anymore, so I''m offering to hire and pay a interested dedicated programmer. This is mainly aimed at younger high school students that as I can''t pay much just yet but if you prove your serious the pay will improve. Here''s what I''m looking for. I need somebody that could program 2D games in either Visual C++, DirectX, or J2ME. Of course a combination of those would be even more welcome. Having a completed project (no matter how small or sad) would improve your chances so if you''re interested please send them to me along with your "Resume". I can provide graphics, sounds and everything else, I just need a programmer. Dedication IS A MUST. I''m tired of wasting my time like I said above, and if you slack off and don''t do any work for 2 weeks and expect to be paid, you have another thing coming. However I don''t mean to come off sounding like a tyrant. As long as I see that you''re trying and some progress then I''ll be happy. Another thing I want is the willingness to learn. I want somebody with the want to learn more, this isn''t such a problem but I figured I''d state it anyway. Somebody who constantly tries to learn new programming techniques and languages to better their work. Lastly I want somebody who will program what I want them to, I''ll be designing the games, and while your ideas are welcome don''t get angry if I don''t decide to implement them. If you don''t think you can do what I want done then let me know and we can work out an alternative. Like I said i''m not trying to sound like a tyrant, i''m very easy to work with, I just don''t want to waste any time with someone that''s not serious. The pay I realize is meager compared to professional jobs, that''s why I think it would interest High Schoolers that love to program in their spare time anyway and could make some money doing it. I''ll pay you $100 every two weeks as long as I''m happy with your performance. If you continue to do well you''ll be given raises. And upon completion of a project a larger bonus will be given. The more serious you are about work, the more serious I am about pay. If you slack off however, you''ll be fired and will not receive any money. Interested parties need to e-mail your qualifications and any prior work you''ve done to dhubbard@spookytornado.com I''ll get back with you all within a week at the latest with an answer. Please attach any other finished projects or demos you''ve done. That''s all I have to say, please no negative responses are needed. You''ll just be wasting board space because you aren''t going to shoot me down, I know I''ll succeed. I''m just seeing who wants to come along for the ride. Thanks for your time. - Dustin Hubbard

You make some good points. Basically by Resume I just meant whatever requirements they could type up, I wasn''t wanting anything professional. Just something to let me know where their skills are at. I have some previous projects and can gladly show them to whoever would like to see them, nothing fancy but decent work. I don''t think your statement about working towards Game Designer is necessarily true. Game Designer isn''t the top of the ladder, it''s just a part of the team. I believe anybody with a good understand of how everything works that goes into a game can be a good designer. I believe I have a great understanding of that and it''s my interest. It isn''t so I can boss others around about doing my vision, I wouldn''t even mind being the designer for a game that wasn''t even my idea because I feel i''m talented in that and I like doing it. In all cases I''ve had of failure however it has been due to the programmer not I. Of course you can just roll your eyes and say whatever but that''s your call. I have plenty of work kept from all the games I''ve worked on kept in folders to show. And on stealing peoples work or demos, come on... I''m trying to run a legitimate company here, the last thing I''m going to try and do is steal somebody''s space invaders clone they made 3 years ago in QBasic. If I''m in that bad of shape I shouldn''t be posting here in the first place.

I''m not trying to come off as pompous, just serious. I don''t want my time wasted any longer, can you blame me? I''m confident in myself and I think thats necessary to be a success. Pompous is claiming that I''m better than all of you and I''ll show you all, in 5 years I''ll be a game industry icon. That''s pompous. If I didn''t have faith in myself then why should anybody else? You''re very right on keeping people motivated is a key part, if I don''t have confidence in myself though I don''t see how I can do that. Saying "Well I think I can maybe do that." instead of "Yeah I''m great at doing that so you''ll have it by the end of the week." is a much worse way to handle being a game designer. I understand your perspective but if you see it that way then just don''t e-mail me. I''ve already had great response from this and am very excited. Whether you want to have faith in me or not is entirely up to you.

I''m not cocky enough to make the next Final Fantasy VIXIX or something on the graphics level of the next Doom. I''m just wanting to give myself and some inexperienced people that want to make some money a chance to start out. We can tackle bigger projects once I know we can handle small ones. These folks are out nothing and only have to gain. I''m the one taking the risks putting my money on the line. I appreciate your criticism but from the responses I''ve gotten, I''d say this is the best way I''ve gone around it yet. Thanks!
