Does openGl draw faces it can''t see? I have a big height field map and I don''t know if it still wastes time on polys I don''t see. I bet it draws past the screen but does it draw past that point when you get so far from the image the just disapear. Also does just adding fog by itself make it faster or is fog just to hide the way I deleting faces?

Most modern graphics cards will do frustrum culling (don''t draw stuff behind you, and don''t draw stuff that''s reeeeally far away) and backface culling (don''t draw the invisible insides of objects) but will still draw occluded polygons. (If you have a tile-based graphics card, all bets are off.) Optimizations in that area must be done by the programmer, using visibility calculations.

To use fog efficiently, you want your far viewing plane to be the point at which the fog is 100% opaque. That way the fact that stuff beyond it is missing entirely will not occur to the viewer.

Don''t listen to me. I''ve had too much coffee.

When I use fog I can''t seem to make it do that. When I change the start or stop distance nothing is changed. The only the I can make visible changes with is the densit part. Can someone show me a good fogging demo. The one on Nehe''s site just doesn''t do it for me.
