I'm kinda a newbie and I've been workin on a tile*tile scrolling RPG, and it's been flickering pretty bad. Would anyone download the source, fix the flicker, and send it back to me? The "game" (i use the term loosly) can be downloaded at http://www.angelfire.com/punk2/idiotclub/Learn.zip and its in the form of a .bas source file. thanks, -COLIN [edited by - butifuco78 on December 22, 2002 10:00:29 AM]

You''re asking us to do too much work. Try to locate the error yourself and be more specific of what you ask. Also, once you''ve tracked down the flickering to smallest piece of code possible, post that code here and we''ll have a look.

I havent been programming in QB for many years now, but if I am correct then the only thing you need to add in order to remove the flicker is

WAIT &H3DA,8

it basicly waits for the v-sync and removes the flicker.

example

DO
CLS
draw stuff
WAIT &H3DA,8
LOOP

You need to use pcopy. First use a screen that supports multiple pages (I think I always used screen 7), then you write to an offscreen buffer and use pcopy at the end of your main loop to copy that page over to page 0 (on screen).

If my memory serves me correctly:

screen 7, 2, 1, 1 '' 7=screen mode 2=color mode 1=nbr of pages 1=current page
screen 1 ''set 1 to current page just to be sure (I think, might not need this)

while true

''Draw the screen
pcopy 1,0 (might be reversed)
clear 1 (or cls or clrscr whatever the clear screen command is)

wend

Hope this helps
