DX9 installation (runtime) problem: HELP!

My system is XP pro, latest nvidia drivers, dx 8.1 present and ok. If i try to install either the runtime or the sdk it stops while copying d3dref8.dll, and report error. No way, i''ve uninstalled 8.1 sdk, disabled antivirus, rebooted.. no way. I need help! Thanks, Michele.
