Hello! We are designing a game that is basically an "old school" type game. This type game was popular on ISPs back in the mid-late 80s-early 90s. Its a ascii/ansi game to be run on the internet. Looking for programmers and idea people. The concept is that your a mech and you run around a real time map shooting at other players and fighting other npc mechs. Also you do a capture the flag type situation. So if you loved old fashioned ascii/ansi games and would like to give us a hand, please email RIFLEFIRE@aol.com or IM me on AIM at RifleFire. Below is a small sample segment of the type of game screen/map that would be constantly updated with player info. [] []~@~~~~~ []> []~~~~~~~~~S [] []! [] 1[][][][][]::[] [] /+ [] [][][][] []M a [][][][][][][][][] Legend: []= wall segment > = You facing east 1 = friendly player M = unfriendly player / = open door ~~ = water S = metal eatting shark @ = whirlpool :: = wall rubble + = flag a = npc mech/robot ! = unknown item

Off Topic: The idea kinda reminds me of arc from sierra for some reason.

Reminds me of ZZT by tim sweeney epic mega games, it was an ascii game that had a great built in level editor and scripting language. That''s what got me into programming back in the day.

Humm. Never heard of arc before. Looks interesting now that i just took a quick look. I plan much more configurablity and options than just 3 weapons. Plus much more space for missions and objectives. More features like mines, etc. I never played ZZT either but had heard of it. Wasnt it a RPG though? We are going for the LOOK and FEEL of the past with this game so that makes us more unique now that few games bother with such an aniquainted interface like text and text/ansi graphics. Anyway, thanks for the replies so far. Still looking for some people to give me a hand with the game. Havent heard from anyone yet. SO, To recap:
I am doing a ascii/ansi text game for the internet. Its not a mud but its based on ansi/text graphics. Sorta like the old orbwars or island of kesmai map feature back in the early 90''s. EXCEPT THIS is SCIFI. Its where you run around controlling a mech and shooting at other mechs and capturing the flag and doing missions. Would really like it if you once played such games and are still interested in them. Would like to hear from Programmers with Net experience and design people. You can reach me here, thru email : Riflefire@aol.com, or via AIM at RIFLEFIRE or YAHOO Messenger at RIFLEFIRE. I am usually on Yahoo invisiable so leave a message with your email or something and i will get back to ya. Thanks!
