Did you download the runtime or the SDK... The runtime only lets you run programs with DX9 or earlier. The SDK lets you create the programs.... It is a larger download... Go to
Download DX9 SDK

Why sleep? You can do that when your dead.

(Hope you don't mind if I borrow this: )

yeah, you can...

>your windows dir<\Microsoft.NET\Managed DirectX\v4.09.00.0900\

there all in there....

Getting closer.......
Thses are all .xml files not dll''s
If I use regasm I am told they are not valid assembly files

They should be in the directory:
>your windows dir<\Microsoft.NET\Managed DirectX\v4.09.00.0900\

There are .xml files included (they are documentation)

The .dll files may be hidden on your system.

Go to My Computer, then go to your tool bar:
Tools
-+Folder Options...

There should be a tab called View
Under advanced settings look for an option that says:
Show hidden files and folders. Then go to the directory mentioned above and see if you can find the dlls.

Hope this helps

In addition to "show hidden files and folders", there''s also "Hide protected operating system files". You''ll need to turn it off.
Aaargh! Everyone save your workspaces before your program locks up your computer!

This happened to me too - it''s a broken install. You need to copy the DLLs out of the GAC manually.

I''ve looked at the source, and there are pieces that are good and pieces that are not ... My experience and some of my friends'' experience is that Linux is quite unreliable. Microsoft is really unreliable but Linux is worse. -- Ken Thompson

OK - they are in the GAC
I now seem to be unable to copy the files manually...... and to where. I think we''ve got it surrounded

Copy them to:

As to why your having this problem...
Did you also try to unhind protected and system files. I forgot that dlls are considered system files.

You need to do it from the command line - there is a shell extension in Windows Explorer that prevents you from mucking directly with the files.
